Sidelights

Together with husband and fellow photographer Wayne Lynch, writer and photographer Aubrey Lang has dedicated much of her career to documenting and observing animals. In addition to featuring their photographs in such periodicals as National Geographic, Canadian Geographic, and Ranger Rick, Lang and Lynch have collaborated on several highly praised nature books, including the "Nature Babies" series. Geared toward the Part of the "Nature Babies" series, Lang's Baby Bear follows the adventures of a trio of black bear cubs who set out to explore the world on their own. (Photograph by Wayne Lynch.)budding naturalist, each book in the series focuses on a different region and baby animal. Through a combination of text and engaging color photographs, young readers are introduced to the daily schedules of some of the world's cutest creatures. Titles in the series include Baby Bear, Baby Penguin, Baby Seal, Baby Fox, and Baby Elephant, allowing readers to jump continents in their introduction to nature.

In Canadian Review of Materials Liz Greenaway praised Lang's text as "straightforward and fact-filled," and cited Lynch's photography as "stunning." A School Library Journal critic commented of the series that, "with texts that read like stories, these inviting volumes provide introductions to fascinating animals, emphasizing the bond between mothers and babies and incorporating details about habits." Antonia Gisler, reviewing Lang and Lynch's books for Resource Links, stated that "the series is a nice introduction to animals and once read, children will ask for further information about these creatures."
